A little background:

We adopted Sassy a few years ago when a co-worker passed away. Took her to the vet for a good all around check up to find out she was in chronic renal failure. We started her on sub-q fluids and Purina NF dry. All was okay for a while until she went in for a dental cleaning and they had to remove several of her teeth. As a "treat" we started to occasionally feed her some of the Purina NF from the can. The rest is history as they say, she loved it and cried for more. So we began feeding her mainly the canned with free feeding of the NF kibble.

Well Purina "enhanced" their formula recently for their vet prescribed food and now my cats won't eat it (I have three total). She loved the old formula....she won't even smell the new one. She just turns her nose up at it and looks at my husband and I as if to say "what is this stuff???"

She will eat some of the Science Diet K/D canned but not a lot of it. She really needs canned to help keep her fluids up, do any of you have any other canned suggestions we can try to feed her? I spoke to her vet the other day and we have a list of some flavors Fancy Feast that we can try but I am hoping for some other suggestions that might be better for her than Fancy Feast.

Thanks for listening and all of your help.

I am very tired lately, so very very tired. I go to sleep at aroung 10pm and get up at 6am, is that enough sleep? If it is then why am I soo tired? I hate it. All I want to do is sleep during the time I am at work and I almost do.

What can be done? I hate feeling this way...

Hey guys - I have most of a plot and i want suggestions for ways to have it end. Following is a summary.

This is a more organized approach to Aeon Ae'llewyn )

And this is as far as I've gotten.

So my question now has to do with how this is going to end. I think Aeon needs to end up across the battlefield from Aeder, this time trapped by duty and crossed loyalties. I think Aeder needs to be an unmitigated ass one more time, probably maiming or killing Aeon. He needs to be utterly haunted by it, and then redeem himself with something self sacrificing, such as dying to save Rowan.

Thoughts?

Isabella de Warenne, daughter of William, earl of Surrey, by his wife Maud (herself the daughter of the famous William Marshal) was the countess and widow of Hugh, earl of Arundel, by whom she had no children. A conflict over a wardship brought her into dispute with King Henry III in 1252.

According to Matthew Paris, Isabella ("although a woman") demanded, "Why, my lord king, do you turn your face from justice? One cannot now obtain what is just and right at your court. You are appointed a mediator between the Lord and us, but you do not govern well either yourself or us... moreover, without fear or shame, you oppress the nobles of the kingdom in diverse ways."

Henry III replied, "What is this, my lady countess? Have the nobles of England... given you a charter to be their orator and advocate, as you are so eloquent?"

Countess Isabella then said, "By no means, my lord, have the nobles of your kingdom given me a charter, but you have given me that charter [Magna Carta] which your father granted to me, and which you agreed and swore to uphold faithfully and to keep inviolate... and I, although a woman, and all of us, your natural and faithful subjects, appeal against you before the tribunal of the awful judge of all; and heaven and earth will be our witnesses, since you treat us with injustice, though we are innocent of crime against you -- and may the Lord, the god of vengeance, avenge me."

At that, Matthew Paris informs us, the king was silenced by her speech, "and the countess, without obtaining or even asking for permission, returned home."

Hello! I am creating a social story about our classroom bathroom break that we take in the morning at 10:15. I am tailoring it to the entire class but specifically hoping it will be useful for encouraging appropriate behavior during this transition for the two students in my class who are on the autism spectrum. As such, I am looking for pictures that explicitly deal with the text on each page of my story.

However, I am having trouble with some pictures... I was hoping if some of you had a few minutes of free time you could search with me and help. Thanks!

1. I need a picture with elementary students standing (appropriately) in line (facing foward, hands to themselves, preferably not leaning on the wall) in the hallway.

2. I need a picture of a teacher in front of a room full of elementary students ... not teaching. It's for the page that says how the teacher will tell us when it is time for our bathroom break.

3. I would love a picture of a kid walking out of a bathroom-looking door... or walking toward the group waiting in the line.

I have all of the other ones I need.

Thank you in advance for any help...

Did anyone see the one hour season premiere of scrubs today with the new interns? I was surprised and happy to see a good amount of Cox/JD interaction. What are your thoughts on this episode if you guys have seen it?

Without getting into the horrible politics involved, let me just say that a prep was added to our workload and I now have to teach a 16 week course (1 hour classes each week, so only 16 hours of material) about mythology. That's the only topic I have to stick with. The activities must be "rigorous, enriching, and accelerated for potentially advanced students." Ideas?

ETA: Mixed grade level, but 6th, 7th, 8th

Is anyone here a school counselor or a test coordinator? I need to interview someone for my assessment of instruction class, and I'm not sure if I'm going to be able to meet with a counselor or coordinator in person. Can I interview you if you are?

I have an assignment that requires 3 parts to be turned in. First part is worth 30 percent of the grade, second 30, third 40.

I use Gradekeeper. Is there a difference between having 3 separate assignments, worth 30 points, 30 points, and 40 points or should I add it up? It'll come out the same in the end, won't it?

I am terrible at percentages, ratios, averages...worst part of math ever. :(

Recall of Diamond Pet Foods Premium Edge Finicky Adult Cat and Premium Edge Hairball

Of importance in the article:

"Select bags of Premium Edge Finicky Adult Cat and Premium Edge Hairball could lead to gastrointestinal or neurological problems for cats, because they do not contain enough thiamine, an essential nutrient for cats.

If cats fed these foods have no other source of nutrition, they could develop thiamine deficiency. If untreated, this disorder could result in death."

I haven't seen this brand mentioned in posts that often (if at all?) but you never know... Please pass along to other cat owners!

I actually wrote a few stories in the past, they all abandoned half way. This time, I really really want to keep this one up. Feel free to tell me what you think about it, I consider it a gift. Sorry if I made any grammer mistake, for English is not my native language.

Title: By Proxy
Author: jedhoover
Genre: Fantasy / Humor (?)
Chapter : 1/?
Disclaimer: Some cursing. Maybe portraying God in a bad way?
Summary: An angel in the ordinary human world works as a Proxy, to do what his clients asks him to do.
Author's note: This thought just came up from nowhere. Guess I should write it down and perhaps, it will become a good story. I don't know.

Prologue - God's Drinker

Prologue - God's Drinker )

Way back in September, my boyfriend and I (well, technically, just him) adopted a boy cat from the shelter. After a few initial hisses and growls, he's settled in quite nicely and happily chases/gets chased by the girls.

When we adopted Leto, he was--how does one put this politely--quite fat. We're not talking about morbidly-obese-can't-walk or anything, but he's definitely got some pot belly action going. He has no waist, and when he lies down you can't feel his spine like you can with Shadow. We were able to switch him onto a 50/50 raw/canned diet, feeding him two meals a day with at most a couple nibbles of human treats once or twice a week. If he's lost anything, it's not enough to discern. He doesn't need to lose much, just maybe a 2-3 lbs--his bone structure is that of a cobby cat, and he is an ex-boy, so we expect him to weigh around 12 lbs.

Thing is, we feed Shadow and Leto the same amount of food; that Shadow is a good 3-4 lbs lighter is also another reason why I don't think we're giving him too much food. He'd been vetted prior to adopting and I really doubt that he's hypothyroid, given how warm he is. The cats all play with each other a lot, chasing each other around the apartment and having "I'm swatting at you" games from underneath the couch--they love Da Bird but they've also figured out how to play without running themselves out, which kind of defeats the point. So is there anything else we can do to get our fat boy slim?

WOOOOOOOOOO!

ETA:

Here is the first post about Brie, for those of you who have not read it.

After no sleep at all, Adam and I started the seven hour journey to Austin at 5:00AM yesterday morning. We got into Austin at 12, changed, and prepared. When we entered hill country, we took out Kothmann's initial rebuttal to our complaint. It is filled with so much pure venom and vitriol neenering and nananana-ing. I had no idea how much stuff he lied about in it. I can't understand why anyone would try to cover up their tracks after harming anything else; yeah, people make mistakes, but this isn't a mistake. This is cutting corners. We had to stop reading it because I began secreting so much adrenaline I actually got lightheaded and felt very drugged. (Yes, I'm the kind of nerd who says "secreting adrenaline.")

The Board meeting went very well! Kothmann didn't show up at all, which was probably for the best. I sneaked a joke in at the end that I would have probably had to leave in handcuffs if he'd shown up. Before we began, I heard the director say to someone else, "You'd think if your license was on the line, you'd actually show up to your own hearing," to which another person responded, "I wish more people would show up to the hearings. It's exciting." They all broke out into a huge belly laugh when I said that we had Brie's uterus with us. There were murmurings of, "Wow, that's pretty thorough." A very kind veterinarian on the Board got into a discussion with me about our intentions, and I think I impressed her. I can get pretty intense sometimes; I try to reign it in, but when I get emotionally charged and justice-seeking, it comes out. Sometimes this works out to my detriment. This worked out beautifully, however. Sorry, wow, I'm getting really... I'm so out of it.

They ruled in our favor. They said it was cut and dry, and this was an obvious case of harmful neglect.

Here's what's going to happen now:

- They'll compile a list of violations and send them to him along with the recommendation that he pay us back for the "services" he rendered.
- If he doesn't sign off on those violations, it'll go to a court.
- If he doesn't sign off with that court, it'll go to the top court. I can't remember the names. Civil court? If he doesn't sign off there, well -- then it's up to the courts to decide his fate.
- We can take him to small claims court! It looks like we'll need that demand letter after all, malfoy. :) :) :) I'll get in touch with you soon! We'll be suing for the travel expenses to Austin (gas/food... or the other way around? Don't eat Chipotle before a 7 hour trip), the services rendered by Lubenau, and to have him drop the $200 bill he sent us after he drove out for an emergency visit (remember the one where he jammed the needle in her neck and I had to lie down with her to keep her eyes closed?).
- We're going to the media. During the hearing, they said that they hope more people come forward about him. I'm going to ensure that others have the chance. I don't think many people know about their options in a case like this, especially because Kothmann has a tendency to try and intimidate people.
- I'll be back soon with the pictures from Brie's near-death experience, if anyone's interested.

Everyone -- from the people who offered kind words to us and mean words to Kothmann to everyone helping us with our case and the kind person who offered to drive us back to Lubbock if we flew to Austin (even if it WAS before you realized how time-consuming it would be!) -- thank you SO, SO, SO, SO much for all of your support and help. You have REALLY helped us tremendously! I can't thank you enough. Knowing that I had the wrath of a community full of animal lovers behind me while I drove up there, knowing that you guys care about the outcome, just... wow. I'm tearing up just thinking about how much this helped me. You fueled my fire and turned me into a force to be reckoned with. I said he was going down from the beginning, and he DID. He still has a long way to fall, but I know I couldn't have done all of this without the outpouring of support Brie, Cheddar, Adam and I have received. Thank you.

Hi all,

Behind the cut I have the first two chapters of my recently completed novel. I was hoping to get some honest feedback. I had a lot of fun writing it, and I like it, but only one other person has read it. So, if you feel like pulling out your editors caps, I'd appreciate it!

Fellow teachers, are your students going nuts now?

I teach 2nd grade and I had a rough time with them in the beginning but I cracked down and got them into shape (its my first year). Now they have completely regressed! A few days before thanksgiving they started going crazy and now they are the same way since we came back. I have sent notes home, took away recess, etc. Its not working. We have had class meetings and everything. They are chatty as anything! I cant get through a lesson anymore without them talking. Help! Are you having this problem? Seasoned teachers, have you done anything in this situation? Its not just me, its so many other teachers in my school.

I teach 3rd/4th grade and have dealt with this issue ever since I have worked with kids. I'm curious as to your opinions on the subject as well as tips on what I can say.

Here's what happened today: two of my 3rd graders came up to me visibly upset because a boy in class had called the girls 'gay'. I was at a loss as to what to do because:
1. I don't consider 'gay' a put down
2. apparently the boy considers it be a bad thing
3. I don't even think the boy understood what 'gay' is, except that it would hurt feelings

Part of me wanted to tell the girls that being gay is not a bad thing, but I also knew that it was meant to be bad and I didn't want to get started on that with 8 year olds. So, how should I handle this? I teach in a conservative part of my district and I know parents would get offended if I talked about this. On the other hand, I'm tired of gay being used as an insult and I believe its never to young to teach kids to be accepting.

Thoughts?

ETA: thank you to everyone who responded! I ended up talking to the student later on and he knew exactly what he was saying. He let me know that 'the gays' (his words) are bad and he meant it as an insult. I let him know that that word is not to be used as insult no matter what. Ever. It really bothers me that this student sees being gay as nothing more than something to make fun of. I've had several issues with him in the past, mostly using racist language.
